Air Source Heat Pumps

What is an Air source heat pump

Air source heat pumps extract heat from the outside air in the same way that a fridge extracts heat from its inside. They extract heat from the air even when the outside temperature is as low as minus 15°C. Unlike a Ground Source heat pump these units must be placed outside for air to circulate around the pump for its passive heat recovery.

At Southwest Renewables we have always use the higher quality system available and due to this our customer are always happy with finished installations. This has allowed us to build a huge portfolio of customers that recommend us time and time again. Vaillant now offer a 7 year full parts and labour warranty on their product installed by us as they know a great heat pump is nothing without the same level of installation.

Installations

Southwest Renewables supply and install heat pumps within new build domestic and commercial developments throughout Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset . This technology is suitable to retro-fit due to the reasonably small foot print of the heat pump. This is often accompanied by the removal of an existing oil or LPG tank creating more space rather than less.

As Air Source Heat Pumps produce a lower temperature than traditional boilers, it is recommended that your property is well insulated and draught proofed throughout. If this is not the case with your property, not to worry! A correctly sized heat pump will still heat the property effectively, but less efficiently. Heat pumps work best with heating systems which are optimised to run at a lower water temperature than is commonly used in UK boiler and radiator systems. As such, they make an ideal partner for underfloor heating systems. Where underfloor heating isn’t possible, heat pumps can still be connected up to high surface area heating such as skirting heaters or a standard radiator system provided the radiators have a large enough surface area.

Our experienced team of renewable energy engineers will carry out an obligation free assessment to determine the most suitable system for your property and circumstance.

Maintenance

Heat pumps require very little maintenance. To get the maximum performance and to uphold Vaillant’s impressive 7 year parts and labour warranty on products installed by us, you’re required to have your air source heat pump serviced annually by a Vaillant Advance installer such as ourselves. These are typically completed within an hour with minimal disruption.

Please see Vaillant's video below for more information on how air source heat pumps work.
